Introduction:

Hi, my name is Jeff. I have been part of the svs dueling community since around 2005 in LOD. A lot has changed since then, specifically with the addition of the runeword Obsession, which is now meta for both lightning and fire sorcs. I will note that this guide will only be covering vita light sorc setups, as this is superior to an energy shield setup in svs. If you have any questions, or comments regarding this guide, please let me know in the comments or via pm. I will cover optimal builds as well as budget builds and different options for skills. When it comes to 200 fcr vs 117 fcr, they are both very viable options and will come down to preference. Almost all current light sorcs do run the 200fcr breakpoint for speed.

General stats at level 96 with maras buff, using fire setup:
200 Faster Cast Rate
• 4,231 Life
• 46k Lightning Damage

117 Faster Cast Rate (Lifer Armor)
• 5,041 Life
• 50k Lightning Damage

117 Faster Cast Rate (Lifer Armor/SOJS)
• 4,599 Life
• 54k Lightning Damage

117 Faster Cast Rage (Enigma Armor)
• 4,276 Life
• 59k Lightning Damage

Gear

All gear will be listed with perfect stats, clearly go with what you can afford/find. You can opt for either 200 setup, 117 setup or both. The 200fcr setup requires base strength alone. The 117fcr setup requires added strength for the armor. So there is only a minor strength investment to have both setups available (or you can respect). If running with highest life 117 setup, you can cover the strength with your rings and have no base strength added.

200 Faster Cast Rate Setups

Fire Setup
General: 10% max fire resist is allowed or 5% and dwarf star.

Helm: Griffons – Vex
• For more budget option, focus on + light damage over the -light resist on griffons. Most sorc will overstack light resistance against you anyway.

Ammy: 2sorc/20fcr/Life ammy

Weapon: Obsession 3 Lightning/3 Lightning Mastery
• Perfect roll is 25% Life/70 All Resist. The life % is the most important part. You should reroll this to reach 25% life if possible. The base can get extra skills such as Chilling Armor, like the one I use, or Blaze.

Swap weapon: CTA with lidless/splendor/etc

Armor: Vipermagi (not upped) – Jah or Cham (cham for cannot be frozen)

Gloves: Magefists

Belt: Arach

Rings: 2x 10fcr/Life rings – Life rep is bonus

Boots: 65 Life Waterwalks

Lightning Setup
General: Limit on +max light resist is 10, or tgods, or 20% wisp. Lo + wisp is not permitted. You will want to have at least 205 light resist to compensate for light sorc running griffons

Helm: Griffons – Lo

Ammy: 2sorc/20fcr/Life ammy

Weapon: Obsession

Swap weapon: CTA with lidless/splendor/etc

Armor: Vipermagi (not upped) – Lo

Gloves: Magefists

Belt: Arach

Rings: 2x 10fcr/Life rings

Boots:
• 65 Life Waterwalks
• Life Rep boots with Light Resist

Cold Setup
General: Max cold stack is 450 cold resist (hard cap, cannot exceed at all) or 400 + 1 piece of absorb (raven). 450cr is superior, get as close to this or even to 450 if possible.

Helm: Griffons – 20life/30cold res jewel
• Alternative jewel option - 35-40 Cold resist jewel
• Budget option - Thul rune

Ammy: 2sorc/20fcr/Life ammy

Weapon: Obsession

Swap weapon: CTA with lidless/splendor/etc

Armor: Vipermagi (not upped) – 20Life/30cold res jewel
• Alternative socket - 35+cr Jewel or Thul rune

Gloves: Magefists
• Can use trangs here, but will need added strength

Belt: Arach

Rings: 2x 10fcr/Life/Cold res rings

Boots: Life rep boots with cr (or boots with cold resist)

117 Faster Cast Rate Setups
There are three viable options you can run here. High life/lower damage, high damage/lower life, middle ground. As stated in the top with the breakdowns at the start, you give/take about 400life for 5k damage between each.

Option #1: High Life/Lower Damage

Fire Setup

Helm: 3 Light Skills/100 Life/2 Socket Circlet – Socketed Jah/Vex
• Alternative socket Cham/Vex if running frw setup (enigma) for cannot be frozen
• Can socket Jah/Jah if buying one helm, use infernos for fire and wisp for light

Amulet: 3 Light Skills/100 Life

Weapon: Obsession

Weapon Swap: Call to Arms + Splendor/Lidless/etc.

Armor: Jeweler’s Armor of the Whale 100 Life – Socketed with 4x Jah Runes

1. Gothic Plate of the Whale

This is the lowest strength requirement on a 4 socket armor, being 70. This means only 20 points of strength are needed for the build, leaving the remaining points for life.

2. Dusk Shroud of the Whale – This armor is a lighter armor, giving you more faster run/walk speed. The strength requirement is 77, just slightly more than gothic plate. You can use another armor here, but the lower the strength requirement, the more life you will get.

Gloves: Magefists

Belt: Arach

Rings: 2x Faster Cast Rate Rings – Best adds are Strength, Life, Life Rep

Boots: 65 Life Waterwalks

Lightning Setup Changes

Option #1

Helm: 3 Light Skills/100 Life/2 Socket Circlet – Socketed Lo/Lo

Option #2

Helm: 3 Light Skills/20 Faster Cast Rate/2 Socket – Jah/Jah

Belt: Eth tgods
• Eth tgods has 100 strength requirement compared to normal 110 strength requirement. You do not lose durability in sorc vs sorc dueling. May help to have strength on the fcr rings.

Cold Setup Changes

Helm: 3 Light Skills/100 Life/2 Socket Circlet – 2x Jah

Amulet: 3 Light Skills/100 Life

Armor: Jeweler Armor of the Whale 100 Life – Socketed 4x 20/30cr jewels
• Socketed 4x thul runes for budget option

Gloves:
• Magefists
• Trangs (may need strength added if running gothic plate armor)

Belt: Arach

Rings: 2x Faster Cast Rate Rings with Cold Resist

Boots:
• Life Rep boots with Cold Resist
• 40frw/cold resist boots

Option #2: Mid Life/Damage Changes

Helm: 3 Light Skills/20 Faster Cast Rate/2 Socket
• Jah/Vex vs Fire
• No change vs light
• 2x 20Life/30Cold Resist Jewels (or Thuls)

Rings: 2x SOJS or BK Rings (except vs light, when using tgods)

Option #3: High Damage/Lower Life Changes

Armor: Ethereal Enigma/Chains of Honor (Eth armor does not lose durability in svs)
• Enigma vs fire and light, COH against cold matchup.

Helm: 3 Light Skills/20 Faster Cast Rate/2 Socket
• Jah/Vex vs Fire – or Cham/Vex for cannot be frozen
• Lo/Lo vs Light, or Jah/Jah with tgods and 2x fcr rings
• 2x 20Life/30Cold Resist Jewels (or Thuls)

Rings: 2x SOJS or BK Rings (except vs light, when not wearing arach)

Alternative Option: Infinity
Not going into a full breakdown for this setup here. But to reach 117fcr and 60fhr, you will need to be a little creative. This can be a viable build, but can be stacked against.

Inventory:

9x Light Grand Charm with 45 to life

10x20Life/11Resist Small Charms (Fire/Light/Cold match dependent) – cannot use more than 10x at once

Stat Distribution:

Strength – Base if running 200 faster cast rate, otherwise enough for armor.

Dexterity – Base
