Dioxane: Seeing the movement and perspective, was able to immediately tell that this game was nox. Then seeing the hand movements for the spells. Definitely peak arpg years
Schönchen_Fremder: PoE 2 or Diablo 4 reminds me of doom scrolling. Just too hectic and confusing. Don´t even have time to enjoy the enemies or the atmosphere because you get bombarded with enemies, items and skill.
That´s why Diablo 2 is such a masterpiece for me. Pure and simple (quite) gameplay.
gameoverhc: NoX is a masterpiece!!!
travistotube: Full Nox playthrough when?
Hodges.27: play the full game
blaztrik: NoX was so good. There was so much more skill expression than any diablo or modern ARPGs, where it always devolves into an almost brainless gear check and upgrade loop.
Sadly this is also why it was not that successful IMO. No real grind or tiny dopamine drips, no repetitive end game, etc.
jnst8295: Peak copeism right here
borisheyjude2510: Boomer
EdytorDan: true...
dylanreed4146: How the hell did you find NOX!?!?!?
pk_lab: Oh man they need to remaster or remake Nox
QQWoLPHie: Like slow pace is important, but it has to be the correct kind of slow pace it's very hard to get right. It's a flow State. It's perfect and Diablo 2 does it.
Fishbro: Games are supposed to be slower pased and slowly ramp up the power phantasy as you deposit time into the grind.
That's why diablo 1 was so good, but the extremely slow pase is so off putting for the modern generation, but diablo 2 is considered perfect. Diablo 3 wasn't even that bad on release during the real money auction house because rare items were extremely rare.
Dolmioumba: What game is this?
DavidKantEven: Bring back the good ole days with llama rpg!!!
elclaudo: 100% agree
tobiashammarstrom4332: Full Nox walkthrough please,
toadash19: Dungeon Keeper 1 and 2!
RunninFromTheK9: Agreed
JaNeJEBASHU: NoX... god, what a game! ;D
Муня-ж7з: Tales of Maj'Eyal is somewhat not lame
danemiller4852: Simplicity balanced with story and topped off with game play mechanics. Thats what makes a great game. Amazing graphics are just a nice finishing touch.
ChosekLazzaria: Have you played champions of norrath or dungeon siege 2? How about rage of mages?
Those were games I grew up playing that were not d2 or final fantasy.
brett4932: Overall I agree. I think the current generation that gaming is being catered to and built for the TikTok immediate gratification, high dopamine necessary player base. But what also comes with that is people moving from game to game, if they can afford it, much faster. I would be surprised if user retention is lower than it’s ever been in any generation right now. So these giant big budget games are being built specifically to cater to a player base that is more and more likely to abandon their game earlier on. It’s a self fulfilling doom loop where unless you are pumping out content and creating artificial replay value (think D4), your game is losing relative to the rest of the industry and just gets tossed aside as the flavor of the week. So the games being made lack soul and depth, but in order to remain relevant developers are trading in that soul for puddle deep content just to stay afloat. And where our millennial Gen X generation appreciates story, the current generation largely doesn’t care.
It’s kind of a sad spot that the industry is a whole is falling into. But I also think that you are going to see some of the best games ever made come out out of the next decade or so. Because you have studios that are willing to buck that trend Like what happened with Elden ring as an example, and create masterpieces that are timeless with updated features, graphics, and everything in between. You might even see that slower pace of game return but just in a different way that makes those “nostalgic” experiences even better. From a AAA perspective I think what they’ve done with Final Fantasy seven remastered is a good example of this. Certainly a lot of opinions on those two games thus far they both good and bad but I think it’s a good representation of what’s possible now that simply wasn’t possible before - in a good way.
There are also hundreds of Indie games that are in development or are already out that somewhat satisfy that nostalgic itch. But just lack the AAA support. And at the end of the day, I think what you will end up seeing is some of these Indie Studios grow to a point where they are effectively AAA, but have soul and have vision that isn’t necessarily tied directly to shareholder value. And the technology of the day is making that more possible by the year.
All that to say, yes the state of games right now is sad to some degree but I’m also optimistic for the future because what’s happening now simply can’t sustain itself long-term. And there will be diamonds in the rough.
Yoloka01: Well that time game makers was like artists. Also done by people who love gaming. Now days big corp hire uninspired people who just want a 0 effort good paying job. 0 passion or skill..... really sad.
TheEstafista: It's extremly simple. They have no soul, no love in them.
Back in those times graphics were bad, PCs were bad, so you had to WoW your audience with stuff like storyline, dept of the game, combat systems... You couldn't just depend on huge fanbase you have for people to buy your next game. You had to make your name game worth talking about.
I recently revisited my few old games like: 7 Kingdoms. Such an amazing games. And back then I didn't even understood english so half of the game was guesswork. Now playing it and understanding it perfectly I still find so much dept in that nearly 30 year old game. Alot of that dept is non existent in newer games. And we'r talking about 30 year old, 600 mb game here!
It just had to be good unlike new GTA. New GTA will be popular no matter if it's good or not.
