Diablo 2s Maggot Lair Is Stranger Than You Realize

Even in 96tz rooms, they're often left untouched.
However, perhaps because people have started to realize how lucrative it is, they're being cleared out quickly more often these days.

DarkQuill: Fun (?) fact; if you add the regular versions of the Sand Maggot Queens to the game, they all use the regular ColdWorm/SandMaggot colour palette, and are all flagged as unique enemies called "Blood Maim the Slasher", with no unique attributes. They still spawn the corresponding maggot enemy types.
I know they've been made to work in pre-D2R mods but I'm not sure what causes this to happen here. I'll have to let someone more talented fix them.

Act 2 is actually my second favorite act because of the Sand Maggots, their Lair and partially Duriel's design (even though it was at the time the hardest boss for me).
I have actually looked forward this episode for a long time, given these circumstances and just wanted to enjoy it as a silent watcher without any comment.
Seeing this text however, I had to respond though. Yes, we do exist - even if we might be few! :D

For anyone wondering how serious I am about this:
It's mainly because of the maggot's design (wasn't familiar with ant lions at the time, even though I live in an area where they are common), the fascinating egg mechanic with them always spawning more of their kind and in general the organic nature of the Maggot Lair.
It's probably no surprise when telling you that I play Zerg in Starcraft 2 as well, so yeah: I'm just a regular bug enjoyer.

Looking forward Act 3, my favorite act though, as well. Spider Cavern luckily has a Super Unique and from what I recall one of the two spider dungeons had as well maggots (Giant Lamprey) inside it. <3
But I'll mostly enjoy Act 3 for all the Mephisto lore and especially once we come to the Council members. <3

I'll take Maggot Lair over the A3 Sewers. Last run through there put my entrance to level 2 in the middle of the map - only the second time that's ever happened, but it makes it take forever to find it.

rendidatriansyah6103: I always think that Coldburrow has some nastiest unseen poison attack. Upon entering room and suddenly you're poisonous. Like it's really a race agains time if you encounter her. Finally I know it is a Nova with cold and poison damage. Was the dev intentionally remove the animation sprite for the attack?

Also kinda wonder why Necro can't get her attack instead of Poison "Fart" Explosion. her poison is nasty.

jeffreymakuch2493: If other floors of Maggot Lair were higher level more people would farm it. Most top tier meta builds don't like it because normal AoE doesn't really help, but there are some lesser played builds that really excel here more than open areas with long, straight-line AoE: Throw Barb, dual elemental Bowazon, Bone Necro.

iagopineiro9233: Not only maggot lair, but all ACT 2 seems to be a huge filter. There is no safe "place". I found it even frustrating as a child and as an adult. On it you face the hardest monsters on all Diablo saga. You face electric and venomous ones, immune ones even in normal, and the hardest boss on all franchise. Its so hard that it seems it was BAD MADE on purpose. Duriel... What a headache. I think I killed Duriel 300 times on Diablo 4 not for the loot, just for pure hatred and revenge towards the D2 version.

Marias.Icerunner: She only boss that is passive doesn't kill just chill busy mother who lays eggs and works like a real Ant queen so I always feel bad. I quickly grab the staff, give her a small pat on the belly "you're a good mom" then I leave. I always feel bad killing her because she does nothing to you she just lay eggs and its her children that defending her but its just them protecting their mother its natural behavior. You wouldn't want a group of mafias attacking your mom at your home. You will defend. Instead I think maggots and the beetles are the most normal animals in the game so As soon I can grab the staff I just leave. I don't wanna bother them. They just wanna live life. a Natural maggot life.

Why ? Most players love magic and ranged builds and be in a narrow place full of creatures that want kill them is not not so great !

I realy enjoy it ( I love melee ) and I like to kill everything in my way using my 2h sword !

The graphics are amazing and we do need a Top PC to play it !
