TheDOSGamer: D2R removed the "G" button retro graphics. The warlock patch got rid of it, and NOBODY plays without rotw because it has all the quality of life patches. Ladder seasons are completely dead for LOD, everyone is on ROTW. So they effectively removed the "G" button because they didn't want to implement retro graphics for 1 single new model.
janmarsch8299: Unfortunatelly, You´ve got it all wrong as i did for many years aswell...Blizzard now is NOT the company, which created, to me atleast, greatest game of all time, Diablo 2...its greed motivated engine for creating cash, no matter what...and old game like D2 classic or LoD is bringing basically no money, therefore its forgotten...i do play D2R to some extent, but i limited myself to play this game as close to D2 LoD as possible, because 95% of changes are very very bad...D2R is made for NEW audience, for players, which want to use one button and clear and entire screen with one click...and i´m pretty sure, that we both do not belong to this group...we were forgotten as original game was, nobody cares any longer anymore...fortunatelly, i can still play D2 LoD SP, variety of patches from 1.07 to 1.13, and i still have alot of work to do, even after playing this game for 25 years...
Schandri: if you dont want to move forward with the game... then dont.. but dont expect changes to old versions. blizzard is making several changes.. go play reign of the warlock
BrettEPierce: I still have my original install discs, and even a period-correct Windows 98 PC to play them on. I'm pretty happy with D2R though, but may go back and play LOD on single player at least.
ZER0-C00L: Blizzard as a company is definitely a different company nowadays than it was 15 and especially 25 years ago. I agree with you that D2 LOD and D2R should stay separate. Last year I started playing D2R for the first time since playing D2 LOD 1.09 23 years ago and re fell in love with the game. I’m enjoying the new content with the warlock dlc and better way of life ( it might be called something different ) like stackable items and quick cast. It has a great community these days, a lot better than it had back in the day in my opinion. And what I mean by better is that people online are not constantly trying to rip you off or pvp you or hack your account or trying to get you to join a clan. Everyone I’ve met online so far has been helpful and generous, maybe that’s because we are adults now instead of teenagers.

Nope_No_Thx: Legacy is dead because it's too difficult to update with modern tools. D2R is designed to work with modern development environments, so of course they're going to pay attention to it.
ShrimpMTG: I made a post on the Diablo 2 Reddit with this video and a mini essay but I think they aught to rename that sub Diablo 2 resurrected because nobody gives a crap about legacy. I was extremely disheartened by the ignorance. People are not just willing to let the game die. They don’t even know what they are missing. One guy genuinely thought they were hiding legacy d2 to “make finding rotw less confusing”. I want to cry.
swish133-n7x: I just ran through the steps you described to purchase legacy a couple weeks back because I wanted to try project diablo 2 which I have had a great time with so far - mainly because I don't have a cd reader anymore and also didn't want to spend time trying to find my old cds when each game was $9.99 online in the classic section. Then, I had to convert the "classic cd keys" upon purchase to ones that were in a modern usable format to basically gift it to myself, download two separate blizzard downloaders, launch two old bnet installers, download an old direct x patch, and finally could play the game. It was extremely tedious to find all of this and do. Even then, it is not listed in my modern battle net launcher after purchase, and it is treated entirely as a standalone thing. It is really disappointing to say the least, and I like your proposed solutions - you are absolutely right that this all is a valuable piece of history and nostalgia in many players minds, and also without D2, Blizzard would have been a fraction of the successful company that it is today. They should not kick it to the roadside but instead treat it with the respect it deserves.
JustKevStockholm: I grew up with D2 and have been playing this game since patch 1.03 or something, and I also played D1. D2 LoD is by far my most played game ever and have given me lot of joy and good memories. I took pauses here and there, but I always had returned to the game, until I didn't. I think D2R marked a point where I definitely stopped playing D2 LoD. I do also enjoy PD2, but that's another story. Nobody know for sure how long Blizzard will keep this game alive, and I'm not sure of the game popularity, but signs here and there I sometimes think the clock is ticking. It's a shame.

nycmaxim689: I had a bit of a scare when I tried to refresh and could not connect, with little communication on the forums about, and not being able to connect the next day as well.
luckily I was able to refresh my account when it went back up, before the next time it went down. been refreshing my account for over 20 years now. lots of sentimental value in my items even if I rarely play on LoD anymore.

I do wonder if these realm downs are due to someone rollback exploiting or doing something else thats messing up the servers since it is only East thats experiencing it right now.
heyitspanos8004: I miss legacy diablo 2. I remember the days where u could see the news tab being updated, lobbies being full, being able to actually see the playercount before they removed it, having all the different realms be active. All of that is gone now
fvalheim1: I'm enjoying playing D1 Belzebub Mod and Plugy Mod D2 LOD we were playing multiplayer with my friends, and It's crazy even PVP.

I've seen the following in-game: Imp Shanks (pre patch 1.07 rare boots with stats that are impossible now), Eth Zog bugged Suwayyah (indestructible eth claw with Chaos runeword in it), Siggard's Stealth (aka bugbelt or bbelt) and an Exile pally shield which had both the stats of Exile and Spirit.

I don't know how many still survive, if any of them still do, they will all be 15 to 25 years old. So people have been logging in every 90 days for up to 25 years to keep these one of a kind items alive.

Some of them have crazy stories. Some of them like that weird fused Exile - I never did learn how those things were made and wouldn't believe it existed if I didn't see one in a trade window.

Some of them were duped to hell and back and you couldn't tell until rust-storm claimed them. If you ever had the obscene wealth to trade for a "legit" imp shanks (not duped), you were trading for an item with "title". Basically an unbroken history of previous owners with a good long-term reputation in the community. If it didn't have title, nobody would take your word that it was "perm" and you couldn't sell it for the big bucks.

retrojunkie8434: I still have some hybrid runewords, 08 items and some pre-patch 5frw small charms and permed bmanas on my LLD chars. Even with pd2 and d2r. I still have alarm reminders set to make sure to log in every few weeks for a couple minutes. If my shit ever expires it’s just gone forever. There’s not many people left on east at this point, but the ones that are there have been doing this for literally decades at this point.
